For bargain shoppers, Walmart is usually a no-brainer.
Convenience and competitive prices make the giant retailer a go-to for almost anything you want to buy.
But even Walmart prices can be cut down — if you’re savvy enough.
Here are 13 ways to save even more money every time you shop at Walmart.
1. Get a Free $10 Gift Card
Have you heard of MyPoints before?

3. Stop Deleting Emails from Walmart
It turns out deleting your emails could be costing you serious money. Intrigued?

To uphold its price guarantee, Walmart refunds the $5 difference to your original method of payment — so you’ve earned money without lifting a finger.

4. Download the Walmart App and Use the Savings Catcher
Walmart’s app allows you to make a shopping list, check in-store and online prices and availability, look at the weekly ad and more — saving you time and money in the process.
One of the best and easiest ways to save money with this app is the Savings Catcher.
Simply scan your receipt using the app, or log into your account online and enter the receipt number, and Walmart will do all the work for you.
It’ll compare prices at local retailers, including current advertised sale prices. If it finds a lower price, Walmart will credit you the difference on a gift card.
Even better, you’ll get double the Savings Catcher Reward Dollars when you redeem them to your Bluebird Card.
5. Know Your Markdown Tags
Walmart has a secret system for marking down clearance tags.
You can use this information to save money!
- Items with prices ending in $__._7 are the original price.
- Items with prices ending in $__._5 are the first markdown.
- Items with prices ending in $__._1 are the final markdown.
So, if you see a “clearance” item with a price ending in 5, and there’s still plenty in stock, you can hold out for a better markdown.
And if you see one ending with 7, you’ll know the item isn’t discounted at all yet.
6. Create Your Own Sales Circular
A great new website called Pirc aims to streamline grocery shopping for those of us who like to shop around for the best price.
Pirc allows you to favorite all the items you regularly buy, and its system will scan all of the sales ads/circulars in your area each week.
If something you favorited goes on sale, Pirc sends you an alert. Even better, it will notify you if there are any online coupons that can be printed to make the deal even sweeter. It’s sort of like setting up your own personal sales circular each week.
It’s all completely free to use and can be set up in just a few minutes.
A lot of readers who like to price match at Walmart find this site extremely helpful because it can quickly tell you where to find the best deals that week.
7. Compare Prices Using Retale
Yep, Retale. Not retail.
We all know the best way to save is by shopping around. But who has time for that?
Running all over town is time consuming and kind of annoying, which is why we’ve fallen in love with this money-saving app.
Retale helps you build a shopping list each week by showing you the weekly ads from all your local grocery stores (or any store for that matter!). So, you can figure out where to get the best deal on the item(s) you need — before you ever leave the house.

Walmart’s price match policy applies to competitors and their own online store.
If you find a price for your item at Walmart.com that’s cheaper than in-store, Walmart will give you the lower price in the store.
And if you find a lower competitor price online, they’ll match that price.
9. Get Cash Back
Add to your savings after you shop using these tips to get cash back:
Shop online through a cash-back site to earn rewards for every dollar you spend. Redeem rewards for cash or gift cards to your favorite stores.
Scan your receipt into a rebate app like Ibotta or Checkout51 to find items that qualify for rebates. You can search by item or store, and you can even find rebates in Ibotta for general items like bread or eggs.
Collect cash for coupon overages. Walmart is one of few remaining retailers that will give you cash if a coupon’s value exceeds the price of an item. Take advantage of deal-stacking to bring prices down.
