The move, which was first announced in last summer’s Budget, means those aged-25 and over get an extra 50p compared to the previous national minimum wage for this age group of £6.70.

The move, which was first announced in last summer’s Budget, means those aged-25 and over get an extra 50p compared to the previous national minimum wage for this age group of £6.70. The increase should automatically apply to your payslip this month. If it isn’t, check with your employer or call Acas (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) on 0300 123 1100. The minimum wage for all other age groups remains as follows, although the Government has announced it will rise from October. 21- to 24-year-olds: £6.70 an hour. 18- to 20-year-olds: £5.30 an hour. 16- to 17-year-olds: £3.87 an hour. Apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over in their first year: £3.30 an hour. (All other apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age.) The Low Pay Commission (LPC) will recommend the level of the national living wage going forward – it will also continue to provide recommendations for the other national minimum wage rates as it has done previously.
