Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. just sent out a press release proclaiming the above box office milestone. So yes, Mad Max: Fury Road has indeed crossed the $300 million worldwide mark at the global box office. The film has earned $125.1m in the US and $177m overseas, giving the Tom Hardy/Charlize Theron release a $302.1m worldwide cume. The film opened four Fridays ago with a robust $45.4m domestic opening and a $109m worldwide bow. The film has opened in most of its markets with the film set to open in Japan on June 20th. We all like to talk about China as the big kahuna of overseas markets, but Japan is no slouch either. At a production budget of $150m, conventional wisdom is that the film is now basically in the safe "break even" zone, with would-be profits starting to seep in at the $375m mark. So presuming it continues its leggy worldwide run, George Miller's fourth Mad Max installment is a solid hit. The success of Mad Max: Fury Road is something of a double-edged sword.
