The Rock’s San Andreas continued to make waves for Warner Bros. /Time Warner Inc. on its second Friday, earning $7.6 million last night to bring its domestic cume up to $80.276m. Yes, it dropped 58% from last Friday, but that’s not a surprise especially considering the surprisingly robust $54m debut weekend. Dwayne Johnson’s $100m earthquake adventure should earn around $26m (-53%) for its second frame to bring its domestic cume just under $100m. Meanwhile, it has earned $24m thus far in China and is indeed shaping up to be something of a monster hit, relative to budget and expectations. Just in America, it will pass the $103m domestic cume of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island by Monday or Tuesday to become Johnson’s biggest by-himself hit ever. While I have no inside information pertaining to this, I have to imagine that director Brad Peyton, who directed The Rock in Journey 2 and an eventual Journey 3) is now in the running to direct Shazam if he wants it. From the director of Cats and Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore...!
